The Peace of Wild Things: Paducah Recital

  • St. Thomas More Catholic Church 5645 Blandville Road Paducah, KY, 42001 United States (map)

Join soprano and Paducah native Emily Yocum Black for a evening of art song for soprano, clarinet, and piano. She will be joined by UofL clarinet professor Dr. Matthew Nelson and UofL-Bellarmine pianist David George at the beautiful St. Thomas More Catholic Church for a concert highlighting music about our connection to the natural world around us.

The recital will feature Schubert's "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen", Meyerbeer's "Hirtenlied" and pieces by Joseph Canteloube arranged for voice, clarinet, & piano by Dallas Tidwell. Jocelyn Hagan's song cycle "Songs of Fields and Prairies" will be performed as well as premieres of new music by Grammy-nominated composer Benedict Sheehan, and Kentucky native Blake Wilson.

Artwork by Paducah artist, Sarah Maggos Black, will be displayed. Sarah's whimsical botanical paintings spark joy and wonderment with layers of brightly colored flowers, leaves, and vines. She meticulously incorporates a multitude of patterns and shapes using watercolor, gouache, and ink. Sarah's works will be displayed later this year at Sara Bradley's (Top Chef All-Star contestant) Paducah restaurant Freighthouse.
